Interesting places to see in Alcudia
What to see when you visit Alcudia, that’s the question. There are so many corners of the town that deserve exploring and we have prepared a small selection. Take note!
There is no doubt that the beaches are the area’s main attraction. With the exceptional climate that you can enjoy in Mallorca all year long, what could be better than a dip in the Mediterranean? Well, you’re in luck, because Alcudia has around 30 km of coastline. It’s difficult to choose the best beaches as they are all exceptional. However, we’d say that Muro beach, Alcudia beach and Sant Joan beach are the most popular.
One of the elements that characterises this beautiful coastal town is its medieval wall, which is incredibly well preserved. Aside from Alcudia and its wall, another particularly important attraction is the Xara Gate, or the Porta del Moll. This is one of the original gates used for accessing the town. You’ll feel like you’re in a fairytale or Game of Thrones!
Aside from its impressive architecture, this place is also important for another reason. This is where you’ll find one of the biggest traditional markets in Mallorca.
As we mentioned, Alcudia market takes place just a stone’s throw from the Xara Gate, on Paseo Mare de Déu de la Victòria. Every Tuesday and Sunday, from 8am to 1:30pm, a large part of the town centre becomes a bustle of stalls and passers-by. Local foods, flowers, clothes, crafts and endless other products are offered to visitors. It is a fantastic place to buy a souvenir of your visit.
We’ll finish our little tour with a spectacular location where you can experience some incredible views of Cap de Formentor and Pollensa bay. Perfect for enjoying the most romantic sunsets! We’re talking about the Victoria lookout point. It is located at the highest point of the whole of Alcudia, around 150 metres above sea level. That’s nothing, right?
If sport is your thing, there are trails that you can follow on foot or bike that will lead you to this spot. There is also a restaurant right by the lookout point where you can get your energy back after your achievement and savour the best of Mallorcan cuisine. And if you don’t feel like walking, don’t worry, you can get there easily by car and the lookout point has free parking.
Once you’re up there, you’ll also have the chance to visit the beautiful Victoria hermitage. You’ll be blown away by the beauty of its 13th century architecture.
